Alphorns!

Today we checked out the Swiss National Day celebration in downtown Zurich. In addition to food and beverages from various cantons, there was a parade and a cultural program. Somehow we managed to miss the promised yodelling performance, but we did get our fill of Alphorns, accordions, and traditional Swiss singing and dancing.

Alongside the various Swiss cultural performances, the program included a group of cowboy-hatted women dancing to modern American country music. I wasn’t the only one cringing at this performance, though – there was a heckler in the crowd who kept yelling “Schweizer Musik!” in between numbers.

Here’s a close-up of the Alphorn decorations. The Harlery Davidson motif was our favorite (and I’m assuming the most traditional).

We dubbed this guy ‘Mr. Switzerland’.
