Punishment, cruel and unusual

Often, it’s a good idea to watch some local television in your host country. It can help you pick up the language and its idioms. It can teach you something about the culture in which you are living, and even help you assimilate.

But sometimes, you turn on the TV and are greeted with things like this:

(You must watch to almost the end to see the best part, a spastic arm-grinding move that is, um…. just watch.)

  1. What the hell was that? I had it on mute but all I got out of it was that David Hasselhoff probably shouldn’t be flying through the air with two little girls dressed as angels.

And you’re right, he shouldn’t make those arm movements either.

  2. Yes, i’ve seen this. Truly puzzling and disturbing. Good for taunting Germans about their big David Hasslehof fan base.

  3. Hey, I tried leaving a comment here yesterday but Blogger ate it. It seemed like a pretty calculated attempt to mimic “spontaneous kookiness” but only managed “flailing embarassment.”
My favourite part was the fish head guy, obviously added in as a surrealistic way of getting viewers to ask “what’s with the fish head guy?” and perhaps tie-in with “Fish-head guy” merchandise like dolls and branded sushi sets. You didn’t fool me, Hoff-ster!
Anyway, like the blog, glad to have made your virtual acquaintance. I read you Christmas market account down the page – judging from your photo you were roughly 75 metres from my apartment in Strasbourg!

  4. Oh my God, Oh my God. I couldn’t even finish watching that. David Hasselhoff jumping up and down with a spear, and flapping his arms while flying through the air? It’s not like I’ve ever been a fan of his or anything, but this just seems completely ridiculous! 🙂
