Nice people, these Bavarians

As part of our search for the perfect apartment in the perfect neighborhood, we have spent a lot of time this week standing on street corners puzzling over maps. Trying to figure out which direction to explore next, which streets might have interesting stuff on them, which areas near the apartment we have yet to see…

On many occasions, a friendly local has seen us with our map and stopped to ask if they could help us find something.

I think I love Munich already.

  1. I only spent a few weeks in Munich years ago but adored every second of it! The people are amazingly nice, the city is gorgeous, the public transporation is incredible (they had a schedule posted that was actually true!! I live in Italy so this to me is VERY impressive).
    Two thumbs up for sure.

  2. lol, this makes me laugh b/c my mother-in-law just spent some time in Munich and came back complaining about how the Germans are “very grumpy people!” She doesn’t speak a word of German, I don’t know if that had anything to do with it… Or maybe she just had the bad luck to only run into people who were in a bad mood?

  3. Years ago when I first moved from friendly Expat land Beijing to Busy, everyone in a rush New York City, I was amazed at how friendly people were ( when I was doing exactly what you are doing: walking around with map which is such a NO NO in NYC) and I kept of thinking: Beginner’s Luck… they are not supposed to be that friendly !
But they were..always! So I can relate in how you already feel about the city.. it is all about the locals! Enjoy and come visit!

  4. I found that Bavarians are really friendly too!! Super helpful when you look lost, they will go right out of their way to make sure you’re ok. Sounds like you are enjoying it – are you visiting any German christmas markets?
The ones they have here in Manchester are good, though the original ones can’t be beat!
    Suze x

  5. We saw the Christmas markets being set up, but we’ll miss them this year. It will give us something new to look forward to next year. 🙂
