Too much screwing

This afternoon I was going to finally finish putting together our Ikea guest bed. I had plenty of time set aside, so I should have been able to get it done today, right? Except I forgot about the screwing. Or rather, I forgot about how painful non-stop screwing can be. My palms are red and raw from constantly rubbing against the end of the screwdriver. And as you can see from the photo, there is still a lot of screwing left to be done. Oh, the glamorous life of an expat!

So, um, no guests yet.

Hmmm… wonder what kind of search engine traffic this post is going to bring in?

  1. They have these things now called power tools! Maybe you’ve heard of them. They do all the hard, rough screwing for you. You can pretty much just lie there while the screwing gets done.

    :^)

On a completely unrelated note, as a New Englander, I must know if you’ve seen Whitey Bulger, or at least the TV spots asking the German public to help find him: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,331541,00.html

  2. This reminds me of an awesome story that Adam told me.

A friend was driving in the car and noticed that his two-year old son was sitting quietly (for once) and seemed to be pondering something. The dad asked “what are you thinking about?” to which the son replied “screwing” at which point the dad could barely drive because he was laughing so hard.

Needless to say, the two year old was thinking about the sort of screwing you do before the guest bed is put together, not the afterwards kind.

  3. In our house we shun power tools in favor of assembling Ikea the way our ancestors did.

Haven’t run into Whitey Bulger, but now I’m wondering what the German equivalent of ‘America’s Most Wanted’ is. Despite how it may look from previous posts, I am not quite the German TV expert I make myself out to be…

  4. I can’t count how many bits of Ikea bedroom and office sets I put together over the years: it must be a rite of passage for everyone with a new apartment or a growing family.

And in *my* day, we put the boards together with the little right-angle tool that that was included in the package…they’ve advanced to screwdrivers now? 🙂

  5. Hey Julie- that’s a cool photo! You’re such a photographer! Maybe you should knock on the neighbors door and ask for an electric drill. LOL.

  6. Oh, there’s one of those right-angle tools, too. It only works on some of the 10 varieties of screws involved in this particular project, though. We must have gone for the advanced construction project.

It’s done now, by the way. Guests welcome!

  7. Thanks, Holly. 🙂

Chuck – you would be impressed how many different countries’ appliances we’ve got going on in this apartment…
