Last day of 2009

Today we woke up to this view:

Ate breakfast at this table:

Went for a dip in the Mediterranean on this beach, which we had all to ourselves:

Went for a walk around Positano:

Saw this sunset:

Now drinking Campari and snacking on fresh buffalo mozzarella and the yummiest green olives ever while listening to the ocean. Eagerly anticipating upcoming dinner featuring fresh ravioli and grilled veggies and rapini, and dessert of cannoli and other pastries. After that we’ll go party on the beach with the locals.

2010, I hope you manage to top this day. It won’t be easy.

ETA:

The photos don’t begin to do it justice but ringing in the new year on the beach in Positano was amazing. There were fireworks everywhere you looked, coming from the tops of the hills, the beach where we were standing, and everywhere in between. The band playing southern Italian songs was the icing on the cake.

    As I am sitting here in the very rainy, rather cold Birmingham, I am wondering truly why I didn't think of taking me, the other half and the offspring to Italy. Why not?

    Hi, my first post. LOVE your blog. We are Americans who live and work in Japan and just got back from spending Christmas / New Year's in Rome and Paris, with stops in Germany & Austria in the middle. Christmas Marketed ourselves silly. Love travel. Your pictures made me smile remembering the great time we had. I've always – ALWAYS – wanted to go to Positano and this just inspired me to plan for that! Great pics and lovely time!

    Jul, you've got to be kidding: The Naples area was still looking that summer and that gorgeous on Dec. 31? Lucky, lucky you. I've just now seen this post of yours, and well into several weeks of cold, I'm all the more in the mood for anything even remotely resembling 35° August heat.
