I just went to Italy and I don’t feel like telling you about it

Perhaps you’ve noticed that we’re in a bit of a blogging slump here at This non-American Life. I have plenty of material – 100s of photos, several trips I haven’t blogged yet, 20 or so half-finished posts in the queue – but I haven’t felt like doing anything with it. That’s not so strange; most people seem to go through a period of blogging ennui every now and then. But I still haven’t figured out what to do about it.

  1. Aw, that's no good 🙁 I really enjoy your blog. You are living the life abroad that I can only wish I lived. I keep telling myself "someday Rachel, someday". Ciao.

  2. Well, I will still be here when you do feel like telling us about your adventures–and it doesn't matter if it is months or years later, it will still be just as amazing.

  3. I've been suffering from it for the past year. Then again, I haven't traveled at all and for me, life in Canada is just all too normal and nothing great…

I guess if I were more excited about the Olympics, I could be blogging about that.. But when your job is taken away because of poor spending as a result of the Olympics, yeah you might change your mind too…

So I hear ya. Hope your slump disappears fast as I love your photos, and have been checking back to see what is going on.

Your trip to Italy looked incredible!!!!! 😉

Just knowing you've got some readers out there should help ya out a bit.

  4. Can you tell me when you figure it out, because I got married on Dec 9 and still haven't posted or blogged about it, despite the fact I am at least as equally excited about it as you are about Italy! What is wrong with us? It is clearly contagious.

  5. Sometimes looking at a backlog is more overwhelming than starting a fresh idea. Sometimes just writing something — anything, not necessarily for your blog — can help break through that wall. I always look forward to your posts and will miss them in the meantime! Everyone needs a break sometimes.

  6. Thank you all for your comments. Being reminded I have groovy readers out there is definitely making me want to get over this blog funk more quickly. I decided to take the rest of January off and then come back with a blogging vengeance (ok, maybe vengeance isn't exactly the right word) in February. New posts soon.

And thanks for all the ideas – I might put out a call for guest bloggers soon. And/or go back to Italy.

  7. after a six weeks of NOT blogging i can tell you the only thing i have missed is checking on everyone else, making sure my favorite people are okay….
there is life beyond the computer – but personally, i like salivating over the food and food markets descriptions when you are in italy.

  8. I'm slowly coming off a two-year blogging slump. These things happen, just be sure not to push your return or you'll end up resenting it. When blogging starts feeling like an obligation it takes all the fun out of it…
