Munich’s most delicious season

Posted by on 25 November 2010

Look what opened today! Munich is already a fairytale-adorable city; toss in Christmas markets all over the place and it gets so cute it makes your cheeks hurt. I celebrated the start of my favorite time of year with some roasted chestnuts (which is probably the most Thanksgiving-like food I’ll eat all day).

You can read about my favorite Christmas markets in Munich here.

  • Aw wow a Christmas market that is so cool!

  • No Advent Markets for me this year, closest I’ll get will be the Philly Christmas Village (http://www.philachristmas.com/25-0-History.html) based on a German Christmas Market. NYC has something close, Holiday Villages in Union Square and Columbus Circle (http://www.urbanspacenyc.com/)

  • I live in the Philly area, maybe I’ll come check you out! I had never heard of Christmas Markets until this year – but I am Jewish, so maybe that’s why ;) I was in Munich a few years ago and love it – great city. Unfortunately it was in Oct, so a little early for holiday stuff. Best wishes to you!

  • Good morning Jul

Not too far away from you in Munich, but I believe, I have missed this season, But be sure, your photos and this article is asking me to leave for Munich next time.

    Thank you

    Kelly

  • Glad to see you’re “in the spirit” again! I for myself will never tire of Xmas markets. (And I’ve got to make it to the Chineisischer Turm — what a setting!)If you’re ever in the Stuttgart vicinity, our own market here is, for me, one of the most attractive in Germany (better than Nuremberg actually), and the “Barocker Weihnachtsmarkt” in Ludwigsburg, just outside of Stuttgart, is a dream what with the Market Square’s Baroque building ensemble in pastels. (I think I’ll write that one up.) And to the south of Stuttgart there’s medieval Esslingen with its “Mittelaltermarkt” — very nice.
    Have a good weekend,

  • I’m in Köln this weekend visiting the Christmas markets here. They’re really cute, but I’m also looking forward to getting back to Munich and visiting the Tollwood market. hope you’re staying warm! :)

  • @Randi – I’m in Berlin now, where the Jewish museum has a Hanukkah market.

@Keith – Cool to hear they are popping up in the US.

@Michael – I’ll have to check out the Stuttgart area one of these years. Sounds like there are some great markets around.

@WantedAdventure – Berlin is freezing! Long underwear is getting me through extended xmas marketing sessions. They will probably come in handy back in Munich, too.

  • Happy ICLW! My husband and I lived in Paris last year and went Christmas market-hopping in late December. Munich was one of our favorite stops–especially the medieval market there. Don’t know the name in German, and so you may have already named it without my realizing…Brings back some wonderful memories.

    Enjoy the season!
